Unravelled

Care becomes a difficult responsibility for Oda, keeper of a storehouse in a village of wool inhabitants. When winter arrives early and coats run short, she must decide how to protect her neighbours.
Behind the story
Why I made it
I place the weight of entrusted responsibility beside the urgency of people needing warmth, as Oda faces her neighbours after forty years caring for the village storehouse. Wool, snow and an oil lamp make that tension tangible; by keeping fibres visible even in darkness, I give this small world a cold that carries physical weight.
The world
I give the cold a material presence in a village scaled to tabletop puppets, with wool bodies, clay faces and glass bead eyes. Snow lights the exterior and an oil lamp the storehouse, while felt clothing, stone floors and wire joints remain tangible; even in shadow, individual fibres hold the image together.
The characters
Oda
Keeper of the village storehouse. For forty years, Oda has cared for the storehouse, living beside her worktable. Her wish to protect her neighbours must coexist with the wishes entrusted to her.
Hest Oren
Young villager facing the cold. At twenty, Hest lives alone and faces the cold with crossed arms among the waiting villagers. She addresses Oda directly, giving need a voice without pleading.
Bry Aud
Neighbour waiting for warm clothing. At fifty-eight, Bry waits outside among his neighbours, rubbing warmth into his hands. His brown knitted jacket, worn at the elbows, offers a modest defence against the cold.
