No Digas Mi Nombre
Work/Vertical Series/No Digas Mi Nombre
Grief drives a piano tuner through an infected city in search of the broadcaster linked to his brother's death. A stranger's intervention saves him, beginning an uneasy alliance across streets held by rival groups.
Behind the story
Why I made it
Ordinary habits can preserve a person's identity even when the surrounding world becomes dangerous. I wanted to follow Iván, who tuned pianos, and Rubén, who worked in late night radio, through a city affected by an outbreak without losing sight of their working lives. Their attention to each other, while searching for safety, gives survival an intimate and recognisable human weight.
The world
I approach the apocalypse through the difficulty of crossing a familiar city now made hostile. In this unnamed metropolis, infected residents, blocked routes and refuges controlled by different groups occupy streets and buildings still bearing traces of ordinary life. Physical closeness and restrained violence keep the romance in the foreground, while destruction remains the wider condition of survival.
The characters
Iván Olmo
Piano tuner surviving the outbreak. Iván's ear was trained tuning pianos in other people's homes. Now his wish to preserve his brother's voice in memory gives that sensitivity a deeply personal purpose.
Rubén Alcaraz
Former late night radio presenter. Rubén carries his experience of night work at a small radio station into life among the city’s survivors. His trained voice bears the physical wear of constant use.
Cristóbal «Cris» Vergara
Administrator of the riverside refuge. For Cris, refuge depends on administration and control. Having established shelter in the outbreak's early days, he manages water and access with a determination to command its resources.
