Anillo Prestado
Work/Vertical Series/Anillo Prestado
Financial need turns intimacy into an agreement when a waiter accepts money to pose as a winery heir's partner. Their contract requires a shared home, with the family close enough to scrutinise every misstep.
Behind the story
Why I made it
Being judged by people who believe they already know you leaves little room to define yourself. With Nael working at his family's winery and Bel serving banquet guests, I wanted to explore that discomfort through money and family expectations. Their different positions make the approach between two men inseparable from the assumptions surrounding them, giving intimacy a distinctly social pressure.
The world
Family proximity gives this romance its social pressure at the Bardal winery, on an estate in an unnamed town of 1,200 inhabitants. I bring vineyards, a bottling building and a guest apartment alongside the main house, where Sunday lunches gather the family. Familiar surnames, banquet work and the routines of winemaking keep private life close to collective judgement.
The characters
Nael Ferrer
Heir working at the winery. Nael's six years at his grandfather's winery have brought work without authority. His desire for responsibility is shadowed by the fear that his family's doubts may be justified.
Beltrán «Bel» Quiroga
Waiter working at local banquets. Bel knows the local families through weekends spent working at a wedding venue. Behind that familiarity lies an urgent payment his wages cannot meet.
Olalla Ferrer
Cousin managing the winery accounts. Olalla's ambition to lead the winery rests on years of staying and doing the work. Keeping its accounts since she was twenty-three has given that desire a practical foundation.
