El Pacto de los 40
Work/Vertical Series/El Pacto de los 40
A lifelong friendship becomes a romantic risk when a divorce lawyer and a Chicago bar owner reach forty still single. Honouring a drunken promise to marry, they agree to begin dating in secret.
Behind the story
Why I made it
The possibility of love becomes more delicate when a friendship already holds a lifetime of meaning. Drawing on Punto Ciego, I wanted a romantic comedy about men turning forty, written for an audience over thirty rarely placed at the centre of short dramas. Lifelong friends and a neighborhood bar let me explore the fear of risking a bond that already matters.
The world
I ground the adult romantic comedy in the familiarity of a Chicago neighborhood, moving between late autumn and spring. Dark wood, brass and amber light give the Long Shot bar the warmth of shared tables and meals, against the cooler greys of Harold's legal office. These spaces hold the ease, and the expectations, of friends who have known each other for years.
The characters
Every character enters the story with a life already underway, expressed in their identity and visual design.
